Kazutaka Shioi explores the transformation of light captured through photography into three-dimensional forms, extending them into space. When I first encountered his SHA-KO-SEKI series, I was fascinated by the concept of preserving memories and time within an artwork, making them something that could be held in one's hands.

Shioi takes photographs when he feels a strong connection to the atmosphere of a place, whether in his hometown or during his travels. He then transfers the captured light onto various materials, including stone and iron, creating what he calls a "skin of light." The forms of his works draw inspiration from the massive rocks of mountain streams and the ridgelines of mountains that have accumulated in his memory.

Through his work, Shioi seeks to share his personal experiences and emotions, sometimes incorporating photographs taken by others to explore connections between people, memories, and places.

This will be Shioi's first solo exhibition at our Tokyo gallery. We look forward to welcoming you.
