During a three-day residency in Futaba, Fukushima, Shioi photographed the light of the sea while reflecting on the memories of people displaced by the nuclear disaster. He transformed the images into SHA-KO-SEKI in Futaba—“talismans of light” that visitors could exchange for letters about their memories of the town at the former Futaba Station. Through the work, the project connects Futaba’s past with its future.
