授業を終えて：福岡教育大学非常勤講師｜Reflections on My Teaching: Part-time Lecturer at Fukuoka University of Education

昨秋より、母校である福岡教育大学で非常勤講師を務めています。
学生時代、恩師の元で友人たちと切磋琢磨したキャンパスは、私の創作活動の原点。こうして教える立場になって戻って来れることに深いご縁を感じるとともに、お声がけくださった千本木直行先生には感謝の念に堪えません。担当しているのは彫刻の基礎を教える実習型の講義です。前半は紙や竹ひごを用いた立体構成、後半は鉄の彫刻制作に取り組みました。
Since last autumn, I have been serving as a part-time lecturer at my alma mater, Fukuoka University of Education.
This campus, where I once honed my craft alongside friends under the guidance of my mentors, is the very starting point of my creative journey. I feel a profound sense of connection in returning here as an instructor, and I am deeply grateful to Professor Naoyuki Sembon-gi for reaching out to me.
I am in charge of a hands-on course teaching the foundations of sculpture. For the first half of the semester, we focused on three-dimensional composition using paper and bamboo sticks, and in the second half, we moved on to creating sculptures with iron.
溶接室に火を灯す
鉄の作品制作にあたり、まずは授業準備として溶接室の片付けから着手しました。 ここは恩師である阿部守先生がかつて管理し、仕事場として活用されていた場所。私自身も学生時代、ここで先生のご指導を仰いだ思い出深い場所です。
この溶接室での制作がきっかけで、私は卒業後に鉄工所へ10年勤めることになり、今のアーティストとしての活動にも繋がっています。しかし、先生が退官された後は利用する人もおらず、長年放置された状態にありました。この一年、片付けや道具の整備を行いながら授業の準備を進めてきました。その間に昨年は2度の海外出張も重なり、気がつけば後期の全日程を走り抜けてしまいました。
Reigniting the Fire in the Welding Room
To prepare for the iron sculpture sessions, I began by clearing out the welding room. This space was once managed and used as a studio by my mentor, Professor Mamoru Abe. It is a place filled with memories for me, as it was here that I received his guidance during my own student days.
The work I did in this very welding room led me to spend ten years working at an ironworks after graduation, which in turn shaped my current path as an artist. However, after the professor’s retirement, the room fell into disuse and had been left untouched for many years.
Over the past year, I have been preparing for my classes by organizing the space and maintaining the tools. In the midst of this, I also had two business trips abroad last year, and before I knew it, I had powered through the entire schedule for the second semester.
かつての自分と同じように、真っ直ぐな視線で素材に挑む学生たちの姿を見ていると、教える立場でありながら、私の方が「形を作るとはどういうことか」を改めて教わっているような、そんな濃密な時間となりました。
「溶接室に火が入って、ハンマーの音が聞こえるとワクワクするね」という先生方の声もあり、少しずつですが教育の現場に恩返しができている喜びを感じています。作家として積み上げてきた経験が、母校の後輩たちの学びの一助になっていれば嬉しい限りです。
おかげさまで、2026年度も引き続き教壇に立たせていただくことになりました。 新年度はさらに深く、学生たちと表現の面白さを探求していきたいと考えています。ひとまずは、感謝に満ちた半年間に区切りをつけて。 今年度も、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
Watching the students face their materials with such straightforward intensity—just as I once did—it felt as though I was the one being taught what it truly means to "create." It was a truly profound and enriching time.
Hearing other professors say, "It’s exciting to see the welding sparks and hear the sound of the hammers again," gave me a deep sense of joy, knowing that I am slowly giving back to this educational environment. I hope that the experience I have built as an artist can be of some help to my juniors at my alma mater.
I am pleased to share that I will continue to teach in the 2026 academic year. Carrying with me the discoveries I made during this first semester, I look forward to exploring the fascination of expression even more deeply with the students in the new year. For now, I mark the end of this half-year filled with gratitude. I look forward to another wonderful year ahead.
